In the VH1 documentary “Tracking the Monster,” India.Arie and her mother visited a KENWA care centers. Workers there explained how they make porridge for orphans on weekdays. When India’s mother asked what they ate on the weekends, the worker answered, “There’s no budget for that.” That got to me. The next morning at 2:00, I sat up in bed determined to raise money to feed those kids on weekends. It was a proud moment when my two teenaged children offered to forego gifts and donate our holiday budget to KENWA. KENWA’s Asunta Wagura revealed that KENWA had only enough food and money to last until January 31, 2006. Further, it had no U.S. bank account, no donation mechanism, and no ability to give U.S. donors tax-deductible receipts. I donated two months to open a donation conduit to KENWA. Now 750 hours later, Save Africa’s Children has generously offered to accept donations on KENWA’s behalf and give donors tax-deductible receipts. Please, if you hear the call to help, consider helping KENWA. Every minute you do will bless you a thousandfold. You can make a big difference in thousands of lives. Sincerely yours in service,
Member of Parliament Sally Keeble for courageously pleading KENWA's plight to the United Kingdom Parliament and the Global Fund. Barbara Hendricks for working through many nights to design this beautiful website. Irene Aldrich for editing services. India.Arie for taking KENWA to heart. Bishop Charles Blake and Denzel Washington for starting Save Africa's Children. VH1 for granting permission to use these touching photographs. Photo Credit: Evelyn Hockstein/Polaris/VH1.
